I’m lying in the mud, full of fear. We could be going over the top at any minute. I look to my left and see 45 and 39. They’re just as scared as I am. Then the command goes out: “DELTA TEAM, MOVE!” (more…)

Run For Oxfam

Oxfam Royal Parks Half Marathon
The lovely people at Oxfam got in touch with me to ask if I wouldn’t mind flagging up the two races that they currently have places for.

The first race is the Royal Park’s Half Marathon.

The second is the Run To The Beat race, which features bands and DJ’s playing sets along the race course. Which actually sounds pretty cool. Admittedly, the biggest name last year was Bashy, and it pissed down with rain, but still.

Click the links if you’re interested in doing some fundraising. My Gran used to work at Oxfam, so I think it’s a pretty cool guy.

Ghostbusters' star Ernie Hudson signs some stuff. I didn't take this picture, but he was wearing the same t-shirt when I met him.

As a geeky sci-fi journalist, I get to do quite a few interviews with geek celebrities. But occasionally, for whatever reason, the interviews get spiked, and they never appear in the mags they’re intended for. So I thought it might be fun to post up a few of these lost interviews for your reading ‘pleasure’. First up is this interview with Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson, better known as Winston Zeddmore. Stargate fans might want to pay attention… (more…)

3 Peaks Challenge

Posted by Big Fat Geek | British Military Fitness, Fitness | Friday 21 May 2010 10:42 am

The guys at British Military Fitness asked me to pass on some info about the upcoming 3 Peaks Challenge. It involves climbing the three mountain peaks in 24 hours.

  • Scotland – Ben Nevis at 1,343m
  • England - Scafell Pike at 978m
  • Wales - Snowdon at 1,085m

It sounds really exhausting, but there’s a full training package available, and I’m sure you’ll be allowed to take sandwiches or something. More information here: http://www.britmilfit.com/events/Three_Peaks.aspx

watchmen 1

Hi guys, sorry I’ve been off the reservation, been working really hard on a new iPhone app, that I’ll no doubt bang on about endlessly once it’s ready. In the meantime, my good friend Joff has written a post about the ultimate geek running – last weekend’s Brighton Heroes Run. (more…)

Iron Scam 2: Did they Venture too far?

Posted by Big Fat Geek | Celebrity, Films, Geek | Wednesday 12 May 2010 2:01 pm

Why the grumpy face Tony? Is it because you're a PLAGIARIST?

So the other week, I went to see Iron Man 2. I mostly loved the first one (great opening 2/3rds, rubbish final act, redeemed by awesome ending), so I was massively psyched for the sequel. In fact, I *might* have gone into the cinema whispering ‘robots, robots’ over and over in a slightly disturbing manner. Little did I know, I was about to witness a Grand Theft Robo.
